May 21 is Armed Forces Day. The theme this year is: “United in Strength.”
It’s a day for parades, picnics and celebrations. Mostly, however, it is a day to honor all the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
History of Armed Forces Day
The American military has always been an organization worth celebrating. For many years, the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard had separate days set aside to honor each branch. In 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson officially announced the creation of one day to recognize all 5 branches of service: Armed Forces Day.
