2010 brought us a ray of hope. After years of ever-increasing unemployment rates and nationwide hiring freezes, people started finding work again. The number of unemployed people throughout the country remained high, but things finally seemed to be on the right track … until June.

tendollarsLike so many other Americans, Reed Sandridge recently found himself unemployed. He was laid off from his position at a non-profit company in Washington D.C.

Sandridge did all the things people usually do when they unexpectedly find themselves out of work. He filed for unemployment, updated his resume and started searching for a new job. To date, he is still looking, at least when he finds some spare time.

Staying Connected During A Recession

colleagues2A recession can negatively impact all of us – when times are tough economically, people and businesses cut back on expenses in every way they can. That leads to reduced spending, smaller annual budgets and fewer jobs.

People all over the country are being affected by layoffs. Many companies have stopped hiring and cut their work force drastically, leaving thousands of people suddenly unemployed. That, in turn, makes for a much more aggressive job market. Fewer jobs and more people applying for them means that it’s more important than ever to get an edge over the competition.
