monitor3In 2009 people from every demographic seemed to become more tech-savvy than ever before. When the year began, technology like smart phones, apps, Facebook and Twitter existed, but they didn’t have the widespread acceptance and loyalty they currently enjoy. People of all ages and walks of life have become fascinated with these high-tech websites and gadgets.

Throughout the year millions of people created social networking accounts that allowed them to communicate with friends, family and complete strangers; purchased phones that were just as powerful as their computers and laptops; and downloaded apps that gave them the ability to do almost anything. One of the biggest buzz terms of 2009 was “real time” – people were suddenly able to learn all about anything, while it was actually happening.

tiger_woodsTiger Woods has been a celebrated golfer, athlete and even hero, but recently his name is most often followed by the word scandal. In just a few days, Tiger’s fans have gone from discussing his golfing prowess to talking about his personal life.

It began with a story in the National Enquirer that claimed Tiger was having an affair with a nightclub hostess named Rachel Uchitel. She denied this accusation and insisted that any connection between them is purely coincidental. Rumors about this alleged affair raged for two days, until another Tiger related item took the spotlight.

We live in the information age, a time when people are able to get almost any type of data they want from thousands of sources. This wealth of information has generated a new challenge: finding data that is complete, accurate and reliable.

Many companies sell public records, but they are often accused of providing inaccurate, incomplete or outdated information. These companies don’t always own the data they sell, and sometimes utilize a “bait and switch” tactic to get people to purchase multiple reports.
