Sunday, August 2nd is American Family Day; an opportunity to celebrate families all over this great nation.

American Family Day originated in Arizona back in 1978, but word of this special time has since spread throughout the United States. Some organizations are working towards turning the first Sunday in August into a nationally recognized holiday, and they are calling for people from every part of the country to help make this a reality. Their mission involves preserving traditional family values, and they hope to remind people about the importance of a solid family structure for young and old alike.
One of the goals behind turning American Family Day into a national holiday includes making sure it does not become too commercialized. To accomplish this, several suggestions have been made on how to commemorate this day, including making small gifts for family members, drawing them personal pictures or sending a free ECard. People are encouraged to get creative, so you and your family can decide how you prefer to recognize this special event.

The first Sunday in August is also Friendship Day! This occasion has been recognized on a national level since 1935, and many other counties have since adopted the idea. Although the exact origins of Friendship Day are unknown, some people believe it was initiated as a way to improve public morale and interpersonal relations after World War I. Whatever its genesis was, the day was soon recognized around the world, and in 1997 the United Nations even declared beloved cartoon character Winnie the Pooh to be the official Ambassador of Friendship.

Friends will celebrate this August 2nd by exchanging gifts, sending each other free ECards or simply spending time together. However you choose to spend the day, remember to take a moment and reflect on the importance of friendships. As an anonymous philosopher once famously said, “A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.”

At PeopleFinders.com we celebrate the people who enrich our lives all year long. That’s why we’re dedicated to helping you find family and friends that you’ve lost touch with. Our People Search will show you how to find anyone, anywhere so you can relive cherished memories with the people you love.

A family can go beyond the boundaries of immediate relatives and become anything you want it to be. Whether your family is made up of a small group of people who share the same last name, or a large collection of people from all walks of life, we hope your day is filled with the love and laughter that comes from people who truly care about each other. Have a happy Family and Friendship Day, and thank you for reading the PeopleFinders.com People Search blog.

We’re hearing the sounds of firecrackers exploding, enjoying the warmth of the sun on our skin and we can almost smell the sweet aromas of afternoon barbecues. Everything is set for one of our favorite holidays; July 4th is just around the corner!

The 4th of July is observed in many different ways by people all across this great nation, and we see Independence Day as a time to celebrate our freedoms, liberty and the people we care about. At PeopleFinders.com we are dedicated to helping people find each other so they can make a connection and share the things in life they feel are worth celebrating. Before this Fourth of July gets underway, we’d like to take a moment to express our gratitude to the people who made this special day possible, and so we take a look at:

The History of Independence Day
On July 4th, 1776 the men who would become known as the Founding Fathers voted on and adopted the Declaration of Independence. This remarkable document stated that the 13 colonies, which made up the country at the time, were free from the control of King George III of England. The King was noted for committing injustices such as taxation without representation, keeping a standing army on our soil and giving them excessive authority, and purposefully oppressing the people of this nation.

The Declaration of Independence was read publicly just four days after it was ratified, and the message was met with jubilant approval. News about this historical event spread throughout the world quickly and over the next few weeks 56 members of the Congressional Congress signed copies of the declaration. John Hancock, the Congressional President, signed with a large flourish that many claim was done to ensure King George could read his name clearly

In 1941 the Fourth of July was officially recognized as a national holiday. This July 4th people will celebrate their independence and American pride with a variety of activities. They will attend parades and festivals, host backyard barbecues and gather together for impressive fireworks displays.

Whatever you do to celebrate the 4th of July, we hope you will share a safe an exciting holiday with friends and family. Have a happy Independence Day, and thank you for reading the PeopleFinders People Search blog.
