Happy StepFamily Day!

Families have many wonderful attributes. One of our favorites is the fact that a family can grow at any time. New people can be added to your biological or extended family throughout your life. The largest and fastest growth spurts often come from the addition of a stepparent.

Family life can be a little difficult when a stepmother or stepfather gets involved. Children may resent the “new” person, and feel they are trying to replace a birth parent. Adults might have a completely different parenting style than what the family is used to, which can lead to misunderstandings and conflict.

Some experts suggest that it takes a minimum of four years for most stepparents to develop positive relationships with their stepchildren. There are no easy solutions that work for everyone.

Oprah Speaks To Real Sexual Offenders

cuffsRegistered Sex Offenders. It’s a term that can strike fear into the hearts of people young and old. The topic of sexual offenders is complicated and controversial, and it was recently tackled on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

People are terrified by the thought of sexual offenders. Primarily due to the ghastly deeds these criminals might commit, and partially because there is no easy way to identify a potential offender. It may seem like the type of predator who would willingly abuse another human being, especially a child, should have an obvious “look”, but the truth is even scarier. You can’t tell what another person is capable of doing just by looking.

A Day For Friends And Family

FriendandFamilyDaySunday, August 2nd is American Family Day; an opportunity to celebrate families all over this great nation.

American Family Day originated in Arizona back in 1978, but word of this special time has since spread throughout the United States. Some organizations are working towards turning the first Sunday in August into a nationally recognized holiday, and they are calling for people from every part of the country to help make this a reality. Their mission involves preserving traditional family values, and they hope to remind people about the importance of a solid family structure for young and old alike.
