On Friday, December 18, People magazine releases their “25 Most Intriguing of 2009” issue. The list of 25 celebrities and newsmakers that People believes made the biggest impact this year is topped by Taylor Swift, the young musician who made a major splash at the Grammys this year.

People’s list contains more than 25 intriguing individuals – some people were listed as couples (like Barack and Michelle Obama), and others were clumped into larger groups (like the Kardashian sisters). Every winner was given their own title, such as “The Power Pair” for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, or “The Departing Diva” for Oprah Winfrey.

A few celebrities will find themselves in this issue for an entirely different reason; this year the magazine features a “Men in the Doghouse” list. The inductees include: Chris Brown, Jon Gosselin, Kanye West, David Letterman and Tiger Woods.

At PeopleFinders, we reviewed the “Most Intriguing of 2009” list with great interest and amusement. We were reminded of the stories that shocked us, like the harrowing story of Jaycee Dugard or the tragic departure of Michael Jackson. We also couldn’t help but smile at the success of new entertainers like Lady Gaga, and old favorites like Sandra Bullock.

Of course celebrities aren’t the only people who fascinate us. The people who make the biggest impact on our lives are the ones we call our friends and family. These are the people who are around when we need someone to talk, laugh and cry with us, or even to share encouraging thoughts during difficult times.

Through the years we welcome so many intriguing people into our lives. Relatives, friends, classmates, neighbors … we build up our own personal cast of characters. So many meaningful people share their lives with us, but time has a funny way of separating even the closest of friends.

Our world moves at such a fast pace that it can be easy to lose track of anyone. But no matter how much time passes, you’ll always remember the people who intrigued you the most. PeopleFinders is here to help you reconnect with people who were once the biggest newsmakers in your world.

Right now there are approximately 130,000 kids in foster care programs throughout the United States. These children are hoping to find a place they can call home, and people to call family.

Adults all over the country are attempting to expand their families by adopting a young person from a foster home. The process can be difficult and time consuming, but the end result brings joy to so many lives. It is a progression that is celebrated every November as National Adoption Month. This years’ theme is “Answering the Call – You don’t have to be perfect to be a perfect parent. There are thousands of teens in foster care who would love to put up with you.”

This celebration has earned the attention of the President. In October, Barack Obama recognized National Adoption Month with a Presidential proclamation. The document asserts that “During National Adoption Month, we honor those families that have strengthened America through adoption, and we recommit to reducing the number of children awaiting adoption into loving families.”

National Adoption Month’s origins trace back to 1976 when then-Governor Michael Dukakis established an Adoption Week in Massachusetts. President Gerald Ford became aware of this endeavor, and announced that the week would be recognized on a national level. By 1990 the event was expanded to a full month, and at the center of it all is National Adoption Day.

Saturday, November 21, 2009 will be National Adoption Day. It’s a day when law makers, judges, families and other adoption advocates work together to try and finalize as many adoptions as possible. 2009 marks the 10-year anniversary of this special occurrence and the goal is to find permanent homes for children in every state. You can learn more about National Adoption Day here.

At PeopleFinders we celebrate families of all types, and we honor the people who open their lives and share their hearts and homes with foster children. The process of adoption is all about the right people finding each other and making a connection. That is our focus too; we are dedicated to helping people find other people. So to all those participating in, promoting and celebrating National Adoption Month, we say thank-you.

A family can be whatever you choose to make it. This November, and all throughout the year, there are families of every kind who help make America the great country it is. May you and your loved ones enjoy a safe and prosperous Adoption Month this November, and thank you for reading the People Finders People Search blog.

The selection of Obama has stirred a lot of conversation. Many people have suggested that he hasn’t done anything to promote peace, and some have claimed that his actions have actually extended the length of one war and helped start another. People who feel he was the right choice think that he has opened the door to bring about international peace and generated a new feeling of hope that has been absent from the world for far too long.
One thing many debaters do agree on is that the prize may have been intended to encourage future behavior from Obama instead of rewarding his actions since taking office. The President himself admitted that to being surprised and deeply humbled at being chosen, and he said he thought of the award as an affirmation of American leadership and a call to action.

Thorbjorn Jagland, chairman of the Nobel committee, told the world that the decision to offer the prize to Obama was unanimous. He said that Obama was chosen because “He has been able to change the international climate”. Jagland seemed to understand that many people felt that it was too early to give Obama the peace prize, but he believes that it will help strengthen the President’s resolve to work diligently towards peaceful international policies, nuclear disarmament and an end to ongoing wars.

Obama is the first President to win the Nobel Peace Prize during his first term. He is only the fourth President to be awarded this honor, and the third to win while still in office. The President will join the ranks of Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter when he picks up his award this December in Oslo, Norway.

Despite what critics say, the Nobel committee stands behind their decision. Although they do seem to agree that the award is more for what can be done in the future than what has already been accomplished, they believe Barack Obama can and will follow through on the message of hope he has given the world.

At PeopleFinders, we admire any effort to encourage peace and communication. That’s why we’re dedicated to helping people find each other, so they can reconnect and share their lives together. We believe in the power of the human spirit and support actions that encourage peace, whether they are from the past, present or future.

What do you think? Is Obama worthy of the prize being bestowed upon him? Leave us a comment to share your thoughts, and thank you for reading the PeopleFinders People Search blog.

Facebook is in the spotlight for its impressive growth, and Twitter for a message that only had a short lifespan.

Facebook has more registered users than some countries have people. Their latest statistics show that the website is catching up with the populace of the United States. According to the most recent Census, the U.S. currently has 305,529,237 residents. The “population” of Facebook isn’t far behind – they now have just over 300 million users.

Last July Facebook reported 250 million users, so this is a very impressive jump in numbers over a short period of time. The company is constantly looking for creative ways to attract even more people. They recently launched Facebook Lite, a toned down version of Facebook that they claim is a “faster, simpler way to keep in touch with your friends”. Facebook also has several projects in the works, including a voice chat application, to delight social networkers.

It’s working. Although the site has been wildly popular, it has not been profitable. That changed during their last quarter; for the first time ever, Facebook made a profit. This is causing people to view the future of the company in a different light. Until recently there has been a great deal of speculation that Facebook would be sold to a large competitor, but now people are thinking the social networking site is in it for the long run.

Twitter gets talked about a lot, but a few recent Tweets have really caught the attention of the nation. These Tweets came from employees of ABC News who overheard a comment made by President Barack Obama while his guard was down.

President Obama was talking with CNBC employees before an interview, and several ABC staff members who share the workspace were nearby. The subject of Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards came up, and Obama said that his actions were inappropriate. When someone asked why Kanye would do that, Obama replied “He’s a jacka**”.

Obama’s statement was met with laughter, and he asked that it be kept within the room. His request was denied, however, when more than one ABC employee Tweeted about what the President said. ABC officials had the messages removed, but by then they had been seen by a large number of people and were already being Re-Tweeted by those who approved and disapproved of the President’s comment.

This incident reopens a recent discussion about what people who work at nationally recognized companies can and cannot post on their social profiles. Representatives of ABC felt it was wrong for their employees to post a comment Obama made privately, and this could lead to a new set of rules that people must follow when using social networks. In the meantime Obama’s remarks will fall under intense scrutiny all across the globe.

At PeopleFinders.com we understand that social networking sites are popular because people everywhere want to stay connected. That’s why we’re dedicated to helping you find people anywhere, so you can reunite with long lost friends and family. We’ll even show you how to find people on their social network sites of choice and keep up with their latest updates. Stay connected to your friends and family, and thank you for reading the PeopleFinders.com People Search blog.
