People CoverOn Friday, December 18, People magazine releases their “25 Most Intriguing of 2009” issue. The list of 25 celebrities and newsmakers that People believes made the biggest impact this year is topped by Taylor Swift, the young musician who made a major splash at the Grammys this year.

People’s list contains more than 25 intriguing individuals – some people were listed as couples (like Barack and Michelle Obama), and others were clumped into larger groups (like the Kardashian sisters). Every winner was given their own title, such as “The Power Pair” for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, or “The Departing Diva” for Oprah Winfrey.

November Is National Adoption Month!

child - National Adoption MonthRight now there are approximately 130,000 kids in foster care programs throughout the United States. These children are hoping to find a place they can call home, and people to call family.

Adults all over the country are attempting to expand their families by adopting a young person from a foster home. The process can be difficult and time consuming, but the end result brings joy to so many lives. It is a progression that is celebrated every November as National Adoption Month. This years’ theme is “Answering the Call – You don’t have to be perfect to be a perfect parent. There are thousands of teens in foster care who would love to put up with you.”

Nobel PrizeBarack Obama was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” The announcement was greeted with mixed reactions; some argued that the President has done nothing to earn this prestigious honor, and others felt that he was the most deserving candidate.

The selection of Obama has stirred a lot of conversation. Many people have suggested that he hasn’t done anything to promote peace, and some have claimed that his actions have actually extended the length of one war and helped start another. People who feel he was the right choice think that he has opened the door to bring about international peace and generated a new feeling of hope that has been absent from the world for far too long.

Facebook has more registered users than some countries have people. Their latest statistics show that the website is catching up with the populace of the United States. According to the most recent Census, the U.S. currently has 305,529,237 residents. The “population” of Facebook isn’t far behind – they now have just over 300 million users.
