Orange-O-LanternHalloween is almost here – a time for ghouls, goblins and sugary snacks! On October 31, kids from all over the country will be excited to put on their favorite costumes and claim delicious treats in the name of trick-or-treating. While you’re getting ready for the big night, take a moment to think about some important Halloween safety rules to help protect your family.

Choosing A Costume

Rebecca DoisyIn 1976 Rebecca Doisy was a student teacher in Columbia, Missouri who also worked part time as a waitress. She enjoyed being around people at the restaurant, even though she had to deal with difficult customers now and then.

One such customer was a man named Johnny Wright. He visited the restaurant where Rebecca worked, Ernie’s Steak House, several times to ask her out. Wright also called the steakhouse repeatedly because Rebecca refused to give him her personal phone number. Rebecca finally had enough; she agreed to go out with him for a drink to explain that she just wasn’t interested.

On August 5, the pair spent some time together at a local bar. No one knows what she said to Wright that night, but whatever it was must have upset him. It would be the last time anyone ever saw Rebecca Doisy alive.

How Jaycee Dugard Became Free

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Jaycee2By now we’ve all heard the chilling tale about Jaycee Dugard being kidnapped at the age of 11 and held captive for 18 years. During that time her alleged captor, Phillip Garrido, fathered two girls with Dugard and forced her and their children to live in a hidden section of his backyard. Two Berkeley police officers deserve the lion’s share of recognition for the rescue of Jaycee Dugard and her daughters.

Officer Lisa Campbell first met Garrido at The University of California on August 24th. Garrido had his daughters with him when he approached Campbell to discuss setting up an event on the college campus. Campbell noticed that something seemed very unusual about the girls, and noted that they should have been in school. She asked Garrido to return the next day to discuss his event.

Safety Tips For Kids This Summer

Monday, June 29th, 2009

summer_childrenNow that June is almost over, kids everywhere are enjoying a carefree summer away from classes, homework and teachers. It’s up to the adults to make sure they have a safe and secure experience. PeopleFinders.com is happy to help by presenting a few child safety tips.

Children’s Safety In Public
While your kids are on break they usually tag along when you run errands. Start these excursions by making sure their seat belts are on, locking the doors and rolling up the windows. Criminals look for easy targets, so an open window or unlocked door may seem like an invitation to a carjacker. Never leave a child alone in a vehicle for any reason. It only takes a second for someone to break the glass and get inside.

Observing National Safety Month

June is fresh and new for 2009, and all the signs of summer are in the air. This month is nationally recognized as a time to educate people about safety, and PeopleFinders.com is proud to support programs that help keep you and your family safe all year long.

What Is National Safety Month?
nsclogo65The National Safety Council (NSC) started this event in 1996 to share their ideas about workplace safety, home security and safe driving techniques. Their mission is “preventing injuries and deaths at work, on the roads and in homes and communities”. Every June the NSC sponsors National Safety Month and focuses on a different safety related topic each week. We salute their efforts and encourage you to read their suggestions for living safely.
