For Joselyn Martinez, the unthinkable happened in 1986. Her father was shot and killed. This senseless act of violence would drastically change the rest of her life.

New York City Police Officers soon had a prime suspect. A teenager named Justo Santos was thought to be the murderer. Santos quickly disappeared.

The Search For A Killer

Police began searching for Santos, but had no luck. Years later they learned that Santos had run away to his native Domican Republic. His trail went cold, and the case was no longer active.

Joselyn Martinez, an actress in New York, refused to give up. She simply would not accept that the man who may have killed her father could just get away. It was time to take matters into her own hands.

Social Networks And A Background Check

When social networking sites like MySpace and later Facebook became popular, Martinez tirelessly watched for any trace of the man who may have shot her father. She searched for signs of Justo Santos every way she could think of, but never had any luck.

In time, Martinez heard about public records websites. These sites, like PeopleFinders.com and USA People Search, offer people searches and background checks – useful reports that help you find people and learn more about them. Just like that, Martinez had a new way to continue her search for Justo Santos.

A Background Check Discovery

It took time and dedication, but eventually Joselyn Martinez found exactly what she’d been looking for. She saw information about a Justo Santos who was living in Miami. Everything she read seemed to match up with the man who eluded her for so long.

Santos was working at a janitorial company in Miami, Florida. His phone number and address were available in a background report. Martinez took her discovery to the New York Police.

Closure

Officers reacted immediately. They finally had the information they needed. After confirming his identity, Santos was arrested. He reportedly admitted to the murder, and will be extradited to New York. All thanks to a woman who refused to give up, and a public records website.

You can learn a lot from a background check. They provide contact information, along with important facts such as criminal records, bankruptcies, property ownership and other useful details.

Our hearts go out to Joselyn Martinez for her loss. We’re happy that she and her family can finally get closure. We salute her for never giving up, and we thank you for reading the PeopleFinders people search blog.

Like its name suggests, Mother’s Day is the day when mothers are celebrated in many cultures around the world. The day falls on a Sunday, usually in the Spring, and is the complement to Father’s Day, which is held later in the year.

Unfortunately, there is a group of women who are mothers, but are not recognized on Mother’s Day. These women are birth mothers, or women who birthed children and then gave them up for adoption. In the majority of families, it is the adoptive mother who enjoys the Mother’s Day celebrations. Birth Mother’s Day is a chance to honor this other important group of moms.

What is Birth Mother’s Day?

A group of Seattle birth mothers created a new holiday in 1990. Birth Mother’s Day falls on the Saturday before Mother’s Day (May 11, 2013), but it is unlikely that it will be found on any calendars. The goal behind creating Birth Mother’s Day was to not only honor and celebrate the birth mothers of this world, but to also educate the public about them.

While children often honor their mothers on Mother’s Day, this is not always the case for Birth Mother’s Day. Depending on the type of adoption, the children may not even know who their birth mother is. Birth Mother’s Day gatherings usually involve groups of women getting together to share stories and provide support and comfort to one another in the face of the very difficult decision all of them made in their past.

Birth Mother’s Day Controversy

Just as there has been debate around using the term birth mothers to describe these women who have given their children up for adoption, there is also debate about whether there should be a Birth Mother’s Day, and if it should be celebrated separately from Mother’s Day. Although the goal of the original group of women was to celebrate birth mothers and their sacrifice, some people have claimed that it is just another way to commercialize relationships and a method of propaganda for the adoption agencies.

Giving a child up for adoption is not an easy choice to make, and many women continue to struggle with their choice through most of their lives. Whether they are involved in an open or closed relationship, giving birth to another person is a major life event.

Celebrating Birth Mother’s Day

Types of adoption and contact between birth mothers and children range across the spectrum. Closed adoptions mean that children do not know who their birth parents are and the birth parents do not know where the child has been placed. Both parties may begin searching for each other when the child is older, but both the child and the birth parents have to agree. Open adoptions can mean that the birth parent knows where the child is placed, that the child may know who the birth parent is, and that there may be limited contact between the birth parent and child.

Searching for a birth mother used to be quite a difficult task, as people moved, changed names, etc. over time. With the help of PeopleFinders.com, the search for a birth mother for yourself, your child, or a friend can be a lot easier. Using just a little bit of information such as a name, address, email, phone number or social security number, we can access our database containing millions of people and narrow down your search. Find social profiles, public records, criminal records and conduct background checks. Make your search for a birth mother easier with PeopleFinders.

It’s the time of year to reflect on the importance of family by reaching out to relatives near and far. Everyone knows that it’s important to spend time with family, both immediate and extended. What could be better than good ol’ fashioned family time with grandparents telling stories to grandkids, cousins playing games, and aunts and uncles spoiling their nieces and nephews? This year, celebrate Universal Family Week with your family, even if you’ve lost touch over the years.

It can be hard to keep in contact with certain members of your extended family over the years, especially if you’re from a large family. People move, sometimes far across the country, and it’s quite easy to get so busy that you forget to call or write. Of course your family members are always in your heart, but what happens if you lose touch completely? If you want to find family members, you are going to need the help of PeopleFinders.com.

Finding Family Members

Even though it seems like everyone is on social media these days, they aren’t. Uncle Bob, Aunt Sally, or cousin Lucy . . . what if they aren’t posting every moment of their life online? A simple Google search or visit to a social media site isn’t going to do the trick. PeopleFinders.com is a simple tool that allows you to easily find lost family members with a small amount of information. Just enter in the details you remember about the person and you’ll be happy to see how much information comes up. Getting back in touch with family you haven’t seen for years is just that simple. Don’t wait for Universal Family Week – you can do it now.

Planning a Family Reunion

Once you reconnect with family near and far thanks to PeopleFinders.com, then what? How about having a family reunion? Universal Family Week is a great time to plan a party and get the whole gang together. Planning a family reunion may seem daunting, so here are some fun tips to get things started.

1. Plan ahead. This is especially important if you will be inviting guests from out of town. It takes a while to book plane flights, request time off, and plan all of the details of a long trip. Giving out-of-town guests at least a few months to make their travel plans is a good idea.

2. Speaking of out-of-town guests, you may also want to think about making arrangements for them to stay with in-town family, if that’s a possibility. It’s even better if you don’t know the family who is staying with you all that well. It will give you time to get to know each other outside of the family reunion.

3. When it comes to the actual event, keep it simple. You aren’t trying to impress anyone. This is just an opportunity for everyone to get together, reconnect, and have fun. Make it a potluck so everyone has a chance to contribute (and no one person is stuck in the kitchen). If it’s outside, have everyone bring their own chair or blanket. Don’t overthink the details. All you really need there is your family – everything else is just extra.

4. There are some fun ideas to consider for your family reunion. Maybe have ice breaker games to encourage interactions between those who don’t know each other as well. Make place cards for the tables and mix up immediate families or relatives who live close to each other. And of course, it’s always fun to make t-shirts or hats for everyone to wear that say something like “Smith Family Reunion”. You can even have fabric markers on hand so everyone can sign each other’s shirt.

We’re celebrating by sharing an inspirational story that a grateful customer sent to us.

It’s the story of Helen, a woman who wanted nothing more than to reunite with her mother. The two women had been separated for more than 30 years. Though she wasn’t sure where to start, Helen was determined to find and reconnect with her mom.

The Detective

After many years of missing her long-lost mother, Helen hired a private detective. The investigator accepted $250 for the job, but eventually offered some bad news. He found older information about Helen’s mother, but nothing from the last few years. The trail had gone cold.

Helen waited for more information. There was no good news. She decided to take matters into her own hands.

A People Search On PeopleFinders

In September, 2011, Helen visited PeopleFinders.com. She entered the information she knew about her mother and ran a people search. Then she ordered a report and hoped for the best.

Next, Helen contacted her detective. She told him about her people search and the contact information she received. The private eye was pessimistic. He assured her that the information she found was probably 20 years old. So Helen chose to be proactive again.

A Call, Lost Hope And A Good Samaritan

On a warm September morning, Helen dialed a number from her PeopleFinders report. A woman answered, and agreed to provide any assistance she could. The Good Samaritan mentioned that someone with the same name as Helen’s mother lived nearby. The helpful woman agreed to pass on Helen’s message to the apartment complex manager.

Helen waited. She hoped the manager would get the message soon, and deliver it right away. She hoped her mom would be overjoyed and call immediately. She continued to wait.

An Overdue Call

Eventually, Helen gave up hope. She decided the detective had been right. The number she called was no good. Her reunion was not meant to be.

One morning, six months after Helen made her call, the phone rang. It was the manager from the apartment complex Helen dialed. The manager was excited. Right there, in her office, was Helen’s mom. After a quick explanation, the manager handed off the phone. Just like that, Helen was finally speaking to her mother.

Reunion

We were delighted to see Helen’s story, and happy to know we helped her reunite after so many years apart. Helen told us that thanks to PeopleFinders, her mother was able to meet her 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. And Helen told us that without our site, she and her mother would never have had the joy and comfort of renewing their relationship.

Thank you for sharing, Helen. We’re glad we could help. Do you have an inspiring story to share? Contact PeopleFinders here. We’d love to hear from you. Thanks again, Helen, and thank you for reading the PeopleFinders people search blog.

Is that new guy or girl you met last weekend really single? Sadly, there are many people out there who keep their true relationship status private—more than you might think. But thanks to social media and search technology, the truth may be easier to find than you thought.

Whether you’re just extra cautious about a new love interest or you’re becoming increasingly suspicious of your romantic partner, PeopleFinders.com can help you become your own private investigator.

Why Should You Check Someone’s Relationship Status?

If you’ve never done it before, checking someone out online may feel a bit like you’re snooping or even violating that person’s privacy. The reality is that very little information online is actually private and most people willingly post all kinds of information about themselves on various websites. From wedding pictures and birthdates to resumes and yes, their relationship status – you can easily find it all. But should you look? Wouldn’t you rather trust everyone you meet? Trusting a person you just met is great in an ideal world where everything is as it seems, but in the real world, it’s hard to be sure. It’s less about trusting and more about being responsible and doing your homework.

Today, a quick search of someone’s online social profiles is commonplace and highly recommended. Besides, wouldn’t you want to know the truth as soon as possible rather than finding out years down the road, after you’ve grown closer? What if your fiancé claims he’s never been married, but you find out he’s been divorced? Why is he hiding this from you and better yet, what else could he be hiding? Learn all the facts about those closest to you, and protect yourself by doing a relationship status check online.

Checking a Relationship Status on PeopleFinders.com

Performing a quick search on PeopleFinders is easy and it may reveal a person’s relationship status and a whole lot more. Simply go to the website and click on “Social Profiles” in the top menu bar. This will bring you to a page that asks for the person’s email address. That’s it! All you need is an email address to find all sorts of information. If you don’t have an email address, you can first perform a People Search which will likely pull up an email address for this particular person.

This Social Profiles search scours the web for social media accounts and information that this person willingly put online. It may reveal a person’s full name, age, relationship status, photos, and lots of other information from social media websites. You can learn so much about a person even just from looking at their photos. Photos may reveal what kinds of vacations or activities this person enjoys, what their friends and family are like, and how recently they’ve been in a picture with someone who looks like a girlfriend or boyfriend. Take advantage of this online information with the help of PeopleFinders.com.

Just take a look at a list of baby names by year. It shows the traditional names that have hung on for years, as well as the one hit wonders that were only popular for a short period of time. For example, if you were born in the 1950s, there’s a high probability that your name is Mary, Linda, Michael, or James. Babies in the 1970s were most often named David, Jennifer, Christopher, or Michelle.

But what about the next generation? Who will young boys and girls search for 25 years from now? Hint – it probably won’t be Michelle.

Baby Name Trends

Baby name trends change throughout the years. It probably has something to do with the next generation wanting to be different from the one before. Parents often like to choose names that are trendy or popular. Of course, choosing baby names that top the most popular list may cause annoying situations down the road. Just ask someone named Michael how many other Michaels there were in his kindergarten class. This can be confusing for kids, teachers, and even parents. Shouting for your child at park may be less effective if you’ve chosen one of the most popular baby names for that year. However, year after year, many parents gravitate toward the same names for their little ones and these names end up on the most popular baby names lists each year.

By taking a look at these lists, it’s easy to see some trends. For example, over the last 100 years, Michael seems to be the winner. For generations, Michael topped the charts as the most popular name for boys. In fact, it was #1 more than 40 times. In the last 100 years, Mary has been the most popular name for girls. Other very popular names include James, John, Robert, Patricia, Elizabeth, and Jennifer. In fact, if you’re planning to do an online search for someone you just met, odds are that he or she has one of these names. Of course, you won’t find many baby Jennifers in the hospital these days. When the young adults of the 2030s are out on the town, hitting the social scene, many of the people they meet will be named Emily, Ethan, Jacob, or Olivia. In fact, for the last 10 years, the most popular baby names have been Emily, Emma, Madison, and Olivia for girls, and Jacob, Joshua, and Ethan for boys. Michael has even held on in the top 5 until 2011. In 2012, the most popular baby names for girls were Sophia, Emma, and Olivia. Boys were most often named Aiden, Jackson, and Ethan.

Searching for Someone by Name

No matter what someone’s name is, whether it’s on the top of the most popular list or a throwback to baby names your grandparents would recognize, it’s easy to search for someone by name. PeopleFinders.com offers a simple, easy-to-use tool that allows anyone to search by name. This search will reveal all sorts of information, including age, past addresses, relatives, and more. You can even perform a Social Profiles search that will reveal information listed on social media websites. No more guessing! Just enter someone’s name and you’ll find out everything you need to know.

If you want to search by name, PeopleFinders.com can help. And if you are still trying to come up with baby names, consider this… Whatever name you choose will be the one your child will have to live with and use forever. When he or she meets a new person, that’s the name that will be given out and it’s likely the name that will be searched for later. Make it a good one.

Music has been used throughout history to express feelings about past relationships, recent break-ups, and even a love that will never be. At least once in our lives, we’ve all felt the pain of a sudden or unwanted break-up. How better to express this journey than through the power of music?

Some of the best and most well-known songwriters have written about their own experiences. Their eloquent lyrics often speak to us, giving us an outlet to express our own pain. Sometimes listening to these songs helps us to heal and move on.

One of the more famous and classic examples of this is Ludwig Van Beethoven’s piano solo, “Fur Elise.” It was written about a woman whom he dearly loved but was rejected by. This type of love song has endured for centuries, with new variations cropping up all the time.

Songs about Missing the One You Love

1. Journey’s “Faithfully” is a song about a man who misses his wife and family while on tour. One of the song’s most powerful lines is: “I’m forever yours…Faithfully.” While the song represents the strong bond of a husband and wife, it also resonates with those who have lost someone they loved.

2. Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” is another. It uses poetry, instrumentation, and emotion to express longing and loneliness. It is a true, timeless classic.

Songs about Searching for Someone

1. Garth Brooks’ “What She’s Doing Now” is a country song about a man who wonders what his former lover is doing and where she’s gone. Perhaps the most painful lyric is when Brooks sings, “What she’s doing now is tearing me apart.” – a feeling most of us can relate to.

2. Van Morrison’s “Someone Like You” is about a man who has been searching his whole life for someone to love just as much as the woman he had once loved, and then lost.

Find the One You’re Looking for with PeopleFinders.com
