Now that the holidays are over it’s time to find that special someone just in time for Valentine’s Day. Though online dating can be fun, exciting, and convenient, there is always a risk of running into a Catfish– someone who uses a false online persona to catch you. According to TheNextWeb.com there are up to an estimated 137.76 million fake profiles on Facebook alone- but you can avoid being Catfished (Or ending up on MTV’s Catfish: The TV Show).

Most of us associate prank calls with pre-teen or teenage years. Unfortunately, this strange pastime can carry into adulthood and become an annoying and sometimes threatening act for those on the other end of the phone.
The First Ever Prank Call
The very first prank call dates back to 1800s. Paul Collins, otherwise known as “The Literary Detective,” found the following excerpt from a newspaper report in 1884:
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently released a warning about fake debt collectors. These are predators who call people and pretend to be in charge of collecting consumer debts. Trouble is: the so-called collectors are actually criminals.
Getting called by a debt collector can be a nerve-wracking experience. Scam artists take advantage of this fact and use it as an opportunity to steal from well-intentioned victims. These criminals demand payment on behalf of well-known corporations, but their intent is to pocket the money themselves.
It happens to all of us. You’re right in the middle of something – maybe eating dinner or watching a great movie – when the phone rings. Obviously, everyone should know how busy you are. So, it must be important.
You jump up to answer. Before grabbing the phone, you sneak a quick peek to make sure it’s someone you actually want to talk to. You quickly learn that the caller is … a complete mystery.
Maybe you’ve been looking for someone and had no luck. Finding people can be difficult. Sometimes people move frequently, change their phone number and forget to leave a trail of breadcrumbs to help you find them again.
And not *everyone* is on Facebook.
