March 16 is National Freedom of Information Day. It’s a celebration of the Freedom of Information Act that was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966.
The Freedom of Information Act grants Americans the right to easily access information from and about the Federal Government. This law states that every person has the right to review federal records, unless those records are legally protected from public disclosure.

In 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson officially announced the creation of one day to recognize all 5 branches of service: Armed Forces Day.
