How Will You Make A Difference?

October 21st, 2010

National Make A Difference Day is Saturday, October 23. The event was created by USA Weekend to encourage people to help others.

Every year, millions of people participate in Make A Difference Day. Anyone can get involved. All you have to do is help with an existing project, or create one of your own.

What You Can Do

People are encouraged to start by simply looking around. Chances are there is much work to be done in your community. Maybe a park needs to be cleaned up, or a sick neighbor could use a hand around the house. Your project can be huge and include hundreds of people. Or it could be a small group, even just you. The point is to do something positive and make a difference.

Once you’ve come up with your project, determine what you need to make it happen. It might be people, supplies, donations … figure out what it will take to complete your plan. The goal is to be finished by the end of the day on October 23. You can always get started a little early if you need extra time.

PeopleFinders At Safetyville
At, we love reaching out to the community and making a difference. On October 23, we’ll be at Safetyville USA for their annual Halloween Haunt. This event is for kids, and parents looking for a safe and fun alternative to trick-or-treating. Families will enjoy live music, magic, games, food, a costume parade and many other exciting activities.

Safetyville is a replica city built in 1/3 scale to give young people a personalized view of the world around them. Tour guides accompany children through the park and offer safety tips about electricity, fire, bicycling, vehicles and other potential hazards. The park is dedicated to teaching kids about safety in a fun and secure environment.

Other Ways To Make A Difference
Want to make a difference on October 23? Here are a few suggestions:

• Paint over graffiti in your town
• Donate to a local charity
• Mow the lawn of an elderly neighbor
• Offer your services to a volunteer center
• Clean up garbage in your area
• Find an existing project and get involved
