There are laws on the books that protects the rights of the accused but for those accused of any kind of sex offense you are truly guilty until proven innocent. Try to disprove an accusation against you around such an emotional topic. Right, you can't! So, we have it! A witch hunt that is at the whim of a DA to decide the fate of someone possibly innocent just to get an easy conviction. Rights and laws are there but how they are applied is a different matter! In reality to be convicted of a sex offense is to get a life sentence with conditions of having to register. Having to register for life is a life sentence and despite the Supreme courts judgement that it's not punitive by it's nature it's extremely punitive and hence unconstitutional!

I would like to add that there are sex offenders out there that have done their time, haven't had to be put on parole, no outstanding fines, no repeated offenses or other offenses of any kind! Do they not deserve a second chance or their rights?

I think it depends on the offense. Technically, if you urinate in public, you become a sex offender. If you're 18 and she's 17 and you get caught having sex, you become a sex offender. I understand that most of them have a heinous record. But I would hope that if they don't, they could at least apply to travel or get a specific job.
